Abundance of Blessings                 Healthy                  Close to Nature

Urban Farmer & Waste Recycling Project:
Working towards more sustainable lifestyles in Guiyang, Guizhou

In partnership with Partnerships for Community Development (PCD), who has been promoting sustainable lifestyle activities in Guiyang since 2008, and the Guizhou International Center for Environmental Protection, NatureWize will begin its Urban Farmer & Waste Recycling Project in April 2013. This project will carry out garbage sorting and community planting activities in Xingfu Jiayuan residential compound in Guiyang while re-building and promoting local values and local spirit through connections with nature and local history. The purpose is to explore sustainable lifestyles that suit the local settings. This project will mainly target the elders, children and youth, and their families (around 200 households and 800 residents).

Objectives:
1.    Carry out organic planting in public open space and private porches and utilize kitchen waste for fertilizer in order to trigger residents to reflect on waste, resources, and sustainable practices.
2.    Based on the planting and nature experience activities, nurture the attachment between children and youth (and their families) and soil and nature.
3.    Together with the community, explore the relationship between local environment and the historical changes in Guiyang. Nurture the sense of local community among the project team and the community leaders.
4.    Accumulate and share experiences and methods with other communities to increase interactions among communities and enhance residents’ confidence and pride.

Autumn Schedule of Events

October 19, Saturday, 2-5 pm: Know your Landfill!
Where does your trash go? To Kickoff our waste management component to our Urban Farmer project, we're going to visit our local landfill. Inspire your families to recycle and compost. Free, but space is limited. To register call Sunny at 18984100841.

November 30, Recycled Treasures Workshop Saturday 2-4 pm: Handmade Soap Class
Part of our Urban Farmer Workshop series, come learn how to make compost for our gardens and handmade soap! This creative class is fun and teaches us ways to reduce our own consumption of materials while we make our own. To register call Sunny at 18984100841.

December 14, Saturday 2-5 pm: Winter Community Market
What should we do when it's cold outside? Get together and make something, especially with Christmas around the corner! Our Summer Bounty Market was a huge success. This time we will invite our neighbors and friends to join us for even more handcrafts, home cooking and exchange of all sorts of treasures (toys for kids, recycled items) to enjoy each other's simple creativity and friendship. For questions or to reserve a table please contact Sunny: 18984100841, or join our active QQ group: 144 644 034.
